Panoramic

Used Photomerge in Photoshop to put together a few pictures of Riby Lake to make a panoramic.

Hockney

This image was made by taking a ton of pictures of the same place from the same place and then putting them together. You'll notice that the biker with the yellow shirt is in their multiple times. (you may have to click on the picture to get a bigger image)
This picture plays off the same idea as the Hockney type image except that each picture used is see through to the picture below it. The background stays the same and becomes distinguishable, but the biker is in each picture and looks ghost like because the individual photos are semi-transparent.

Scanogram

These are from a scanogram assignment. We were to 1-scan items into the computer and then use them to create a picture 2- do a straight scan and that is the picture.This picture was made using 6 different photos. 5 were scanned in from a magazine and 1 was a photo that wasn't scanned. They were then put together to practice using tools in photoshop
This photo and the one below were made using a scanner. To make the photo above I left the scanner lid open. For the photo below I closed the lid to the scanner. It's amazing how that changes the look and feel of the picture.

Texture Assignment

Just finished up an assignment dealing with texture in my Intro to Studio Lighting class this week. I grabbed a potted plant that the Elders Quorum gave to Kate for Mother's day and some potting soil for my shots. A fellow class mate had brought some wood for his shots and I asked if I could use it for mine. He said yes and the shots turned out better than I thought they would.


This photo and the one below are dealing with our artistic interpretation of shadow. So which should I turn in the one above with a soft shadow or the one below with a very sharp hard shadow.

Skate

A while back I was out shooting pictures for a school assignment down at the local skate park. I got these guys email addresses to send them a cool shot of them in the air but I can't find the paper anywhere. I am going to keep looking. For now here are some of their sweet moves.

Studio Portraits

One of the three photo classes I am in right now is called Intro to Studio Lighting and I am learning alot! Most of our shots have been done on a mannequin head named Twiggy. A few of them have been done with live people. Here is what I have done in there so far. Each of them were shot to accomplish very specific modeling and lighting techniques we are learning about.

A New Reality

So it's been a little while since I lasted posted something here. Reasons why include: starting a new semester a school, Running a 50 mile trail run, catching back up with school work after the trail run.

Any way this semester I am in 3 photo classes, Digital Photo, Historical Processes, and Intro to Studio Lighting. They are some pretty good classes. My favorite this semester has to be the historical processes. More about that later.

For now here are a couple of Pictures I put together for our 'new reality' assignment I just turned in for digital photo.

Series

One of our final assignments this semester was a 'series' assignment. I had originally wanted to use some of the funny faces as my series that were posted on my other blog. Though there were some great faces made, I hadn't controlled the lighting very well and thus after a discussion with my instructor decided to continue to explore my series ideas.

What I turned in were a series of portraits utilizing both emotions and color. I think the best part of this series was Kate's hair. We colored it with a box of 'cinnaberry' color we got at walmart for $8 bucks. Her hair was beautiful. I will have to post a couple more separately of just Kate. Until then here are the ones I submitted for the assignment.

Abstract

It's amazing how hard it can be to come up with something abstract. Even making something look blurry on purpose takes great effort to also make it worth looking at.

Portraits

The assignment, 'Portraits'. I actually went to a couple of different stores and asked to take pictures of people working there. I wound up turning in a shot of my brother Mark working at Xango and a shot of my wife's nephew. The shots were taken when we went down for my wife's grandma's funeral in March.
